Brittany Aldean Opens Up About Her Terrifying Experience During the Las Vegas Shooting
Brittany Aldean watched from afar as Jason Aldean, her husband of two years, was on stage when a gunman opened fire at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas on Sunday night. At least 58 people were killed and hundreds were wounded in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, but the country star and his pregnant wife we both able to make it to safety.
The formerAmerican Idolcontestant (née Brittany Kerr) initially posted on social media after the attack to let her fans know she was safe. After taking some time to digest what happened, Brittany decided to share her thoughts about her experience that horrible night in an Instagram post.
"It's been hard to process what happened the other night... still feel like I'm in a daze," she wrote in the post. "First and foremost, thank you to the first responders. It amazed me at the time and still continues to—these people completely put everyone else's lives before theirs and we are all forever grateful."
The makeup artist and lifestyle blogger is currently 30 weeks pregnant with the couple's first baby and says she feared for the life of her unborn child during the shooting. She was in a tent near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino with friends when the first shots rang out. "As you can imagine my first instinct was to run to [Jason] and his was the same. As we laid behind equipment on stage with some of our road family, bullets flying past... all I could think was, 'I never even got to hold my baby.' We all made sure the others knew we loved them and then ran for cover where we stayed for the next couple of hours."
Brittany continued on to say how heartbroken she is and how grateful she is to be alive. "We were the lucky ones," she wrote in the post. "I can't put into words the pain and heartache we feel for the ones who are longer with us. May God be with their families and friends during this horrendous time. Each and every one of you are and will forever be in our prayers."
Both still coping with the tragedy, Jason shared a similar sentiment on Instagram. "I truly don't understand why a person would want to take the life of another," he wrote in the post. "Something has changed in this country and in this world lately that is scary to see.
