Pursuing the cure for diabetes at UHN
How to cure diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is one of the big ones; a gateway disease to other killers like heart disease. Once thought to be as irreversible as time, groundbreaking research at Newcastle University has now found a way to turn back the clock and even cure it. It has completely changed the outlook on type 2 diabetes, says lead researcher Professor Roy Taylor. Patients were put on an 800-calorie a day diet, their restricted menu tailored to affect insulin function. What happened blew minds and caught headlines: the subjects insulin production returned to normal and they remained free from diabetes for years. Since then, scores of determined body-hackers have independently reversed the condition at home and Diabetes UK has funded a new large-scale study.
Make it happen
