Making bamboo bows and arrows

Making bows and arrows from bamboo- a master class on making bows and arrows with your own hands. The result is a real bow, which is suitable for training and trap shooting. For the manufacture of onions used bamboo rods, which allows you to make the bow flexible, durable and powerful enough.

Materials and tools:

  1. saw;
  2. A sharp knife
  3. gas burner with a can;
  4. white paint and brush;
  5. 4 bamboo rods 0.7-1.2 cm thick and 150-170 cm long
  6. Nylon rope or 80 cm thick cotton rope;
  7. a 26cm clothesline is suitable for the bowstring, or you can make a string by yourself;
  8. for arrows a round rod with a diameter of 1 cm, goose feathers, a tip
  9. waxed thread or artificial tendon (s);
  10. epoxy glue.

Step 1

Getting to the manufacture of onions. Putting bamboo rods together. Since bamboo rods have one end thinner than the other, we twist 2 rods so that 2 thin ends are next to 2 thick other rods, thus the bow is uniform in thickness. Temporarily fix the bars with tape.

We mark the middle of the bow, retreat 10 cm from it to both sides and note - we wrap this part with a nylon rope. The scheme of wrapping the hidden node is shown in the pictures.

Make another 4 windings of onion strings:

  • we retreat 30 cm from the winding in the middle and also we wind the rods with nylon rope 5-8 cm;
  • two others, retreat a bit from the ends and wind.

Step 2

Make a string of clothesline. At one end of the rope do a loop and put on one end of the bow. Then pull the string, slightly bending the bow. Fasten the second end of the rope to the bow. The method of attachment is shown in fig. 3: make a rotation around the rope and 2-3 turns in the opposite direction around the end of the bow, then we knit the knot and skip between the rods.

ThisBow Makingis complete.

Step 3

Let's start making arrows from a round rail. First, grind the rail with fine sandpaper. Then from one end we make a recess about 0.6 cm in order to fix the arrow on the string before firing. We deepen the groove with a hacksaw so that the arrow does not crack, we wind it with an artificial tendon.

Step 4

Let's make the feathering of the arrow from goose feathers. Knife cut off the end of the pen with poor plumage. Further, also with a knife, we cut the feather into 2 parts and from the end we remove about 0.5 cm of feathering, in order to start attaching the feathering to the boom (see Fig. 6). At the end we color the plumage with white paint (see Figure 7).

Step 5

Let's proceed to fastening the plumage to 3 to each boom. The first pen is attached at an angle of 900 to the groove line, the other two are V-shaped and the same distance from the first.

We start fixing from the cleaned end of the feathers and use artificial tendons. In order not to bend the plumage, push it with a knife (seerice). At the end of the scissors trim the plumage and give it a form.
