Aluminum wiring in two cores is prone to corrosion and spillage. The typical reason for such a condition is the very poor insulation of many Soviet cables. Chemically, aluminum is more active than copper (the main material of clean cables). But it is in its purest form. Aluminum in air is covered with a strong oxide film and, in theory, should be more durable. But when the sheath of insulation falls or water flows into it at a time when the wire is not energized - the wires are destroyed. The second factor is fire hazard. In some old houses the insulation is made of ... ordinary cloth. Which for decades, of course, decayed. The modern polymer sheath of cables is also much better than the worn-out Soviet decades.cambric.The abundance of new methods of connection does not alter the usual twist at all. In conditions of extreme repair this is almost the only correct way out. The simplest curling of two wires, while respecting the approximate estimation of current (do not put a thin wire on a strong current) works almost always. But copper and aluminum are not allowed to be connected. They have relatively close resistance indicators, but copper is still smaller - and this creates an excellent thermocouple. The melting point of aluminum is slightly higher than six hundred degrees, therefore, such a twist is flammable a priori. Pros:everyone can do. There would be wires and hands. Cons:twisting is never airtight. Over time, the contact weakens, from poor contact, the resistance increases, the design begins to warm ... and then everything is as in the case of twisting copper with aluminum. That is why this method is prohibited by the rules of PUE.
